India 2017 Food Diary, Day 8

According to my notes, I started off my Indian birthday with a vegetable turnover.  I didn’t take a picture, and I have no recollection of it.  So you just have to use your imagination.  I bet it was pretty good though.

In the middle of my day of sightseeing in South Delhi, I had lunch at a vegetarian restaurant in an area of Delhi called Defence Colony.  (It was originally built for the homes of military officers and veterans.)  The waiter brought over some condiments that I didn’t make much use of.

A strawberry sparkling soda sounding really refreshing after a morning trekking around the Mehrauli area.  I freaked out when it came because it had ice in it.  Drinking ice made from tap water [Read more…]

India 2017 Food Diary, Day 7

I started off Day 7 by getting to the Taj Mahal at the crack of dawn.  Seeing the Taj Mahal made it a day like no other in my entire life.  After my visit, I had a late breakfast at a cute little place beyond the Taj’s southern gate.  The relaxing atmosphere and delicious food made sure the day kept on being a good one.

For my post-Taj breakfast, I had a cheese & masala (Indian spice) omelette with a side of toast with butter.  How cute is it that the toast comes neatly wrapped!

India 2017 Food Diary, Day 6

On the morning of Day 6, I had the best train ride ever.  At first I resisted the food offered to me for breakfast by the young Indian couple I met.  Being a picky eater, I was sure it would be something I wouldn’t like.  But it looked pretty good, and they told me that the husband’s mother was the best cook.  I relented, and it turns out that they were right.  Delicious!

I had spiced cold potatoes cubes, paneer (firm cottage cheese) and peas in a sauce, plain bread, and deep-fried bread.  Considering that I never cared for Indian food, I couldn’t believe how much I liked it.  My compliments to the mam!  (I just had to look up Hindi for “mother”.)

India 2017 Food Diary, Day 5

On the morning of Day 5, I had a bus to catch, and I had to take a bus to get to the bus, so I skipped breakfast.  I grabbed a sweet lassi (delicouis Indian yogurt shake) instead (somewhere).

After my morning sightseeing was over, I returned to the fabulous Hotel Pearl Palace to have lunch at their fabulous rooftop restaurant.

India 2017 Food Diary, Day 4

One of the reasons why I loved the Hotel Pearl Palace in Jaipur was the fabulous Peacock Rooftop Restaurant.  (My hotel in Jodhpur also had a nice rooftop restaurant, where I had a very filling dinner.)
Before I headed out for my 1st day of sightseeing in colorful Jaipur, I headed up to the rooftop for breakfast.  I started off with aloo parantha (flatbread stuffed with potatoes and [Read more…]
