I’m being a little controversial here as some take offense to referring to Ireland as a British island. The truth is that the British Isles are mostly made up of two islands: one is Great Britain; the other is Ireland. So it seems that only one of the two main British Isles is actually British. But I’m going to go with it for now. But wait. If there is a Great Britain, there must be a Little Britain, right? You betcha. Would you believe it’s Brittany, in northwest France? When the Anglo-Saxons invaded and conquered Britain, large numbers of Britons escaped the island and settled in the region of France now known as Brittany. They lived somewhat autonomously from the rest of France for about 1,000 years, creating a Little Britain on the European continent.
I’m half Irish, but I’ve never made it to the Emerald Isle. Until recently, I’d only made it to London. I’d been there three times, for a grand total of six nights. Yes, they were short trips. Two were for work. Recently I got back to the UK. But I still have a lot to see.
Of course, the country Ireland only consists of 5/6 of the island Ireland. Great Britain and Northern Ireland make up the United Kingdom. For more on the UK, click the link below:
