San Francisco 2016 Food Diary, Day 7

I spent a big chunk of Day 7 in Chinatown.  Surprisingly, I didn’t eat a whole lot of Chinese food.  (There was more Chinese food coming up in the near future though.)

Francisco met me for breakfast at Café de la Presse.  Café de la Presse is conveniently located around the corner from where I live.  But the convenience doesn’t end there.  It’s directly across the street from the Chinatown Gate.  A perfect spot to begin the day before traipsing around Chinatown.

San Francisco 2016, Day 7

Chinatown and the Financial District

Welcome to the last regularly scheduled sightseeing day of the 2016 sightseeing season!  (Notice how I qualified that “last”?)

San Francisco 2016 Food Diary, Weekday Edition

3 days in a row, I had good meals out on the town.  Not bad for a day (well, 3 days, actually) that was originally unplanned.

On the 1st day, I had dinner at the historic Old Ship Saloon.  It’s outside the Financial District, so I was surprised that it’s closed on weekends.  I got the buttermilk fried chicken and fries with garlic pepper.  Basic, and basically good!

San Francisco 2016, Weekday Edition

A number of the sites in the neighborhoods of San Francisco I was visiting in 2016 were closed on Saturdays.  Most of these, unsurprisingly, were downtown, in and around the Financial District.  I knew I’d be heading back to full-time work shortly, after having taken about a year off.  So for 3 days in a row in September, I checked out these weekday-only sites.

Transamerica Pyramid

San Francisco's iconic Transamerica Pyramid. For 45 years, it was the tallest building in San Francisco. Briefly, it was the tallest building on the West Coast. San Francisco, United States, North America.

San Francisco 2016 Food Diary, Day 6

Francisco and I had breakfast at the Pier 39 outlet of Boudin Bakery.  Boudin has been around since Gold Rush times and is famous for its sourdough bread.  Breakfast was terrible (not unexpected for Pier 39 dining).  I had sourdough French toast with cinnamon, sugar, whipper butter, and syrup served with season fruit.  The French toast tasted reheated.  I got a chocolate croissant because it really good in the case.  With tax and tip, it cost $5 and it was lousy.
