I love going to the dining car on a train. And that’s exactly what I did on my way back to Madrid from Valencia. I got a Spanish breakfast–some bread and some of that delicious Iberian ham.
Because the Naval Museum was closed when it should have been open, I had plenty of spare time to have a leisurely, high-class lunch in the Palm Court at the historic Hotel Ritz. They didn’t mind at all that I was casually dressed. I really went for it with grilled beef tenderloin with seasonal mushrooms and Périgord sauce. And how about a side of roasted seasonal vegetables? (Of course I didn’t eat the asparagus.)
I bet I got this chocolate truffle cake at the Prado.
And what did I have that night somewhere around Chueca? Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe better. My friend Paco says that they are empanadillas, in other words empanadas in Spain. This mystifies me as I was quite sure the 1st time I had empanadas was ahead of my 2024 trip to South America. And I can’t tell you if they were meat-stuffed or more of a dessert-type thing. It will remain a mystery!
