India 2017 Food Diary, Day 10, Part 1

I never break the Food Diary into parts.  But I think Day 10 is my only India post broken up into parts.  And my Day 10 dining could easily be broken into parts matching the parts of the day.  You’ll see.  So…

I skipped breakfast in the morning because I got a late start to the day and I needed to make up lost time after my delayed arrival in Rishikesh on Day 9.

It took me a while to find my lunch spot, and I was thrilled to finally arrive at The 60s Cafe, also known as Beatles Cafe.  Rishikesh is where the Beatles came in 1968 to get all spiritual.  This fun restaurant pays tribute to their visit and the spirit of the 60s.  It has beautiful views of the Ganges too.

I was more than ready for a cold drink when I arrived.  I easily could have gone for an Across the Universe or a Strawberry Fields Forever.  But what really sounded good were Earl Grey Flavoured Lemon Iced Tea and The Awesome Smoothie.  The Earl Grey Flavoured Lemon Iced Tea should be self-explanatory.  The Awesome Smoothie was a blend of banana, apple, kiwi, strawberries, orange, soy milk, yogurt, tofu, peanut butter, aloe vera juice, and flax seed, oil.  AWESOME!

Both of the these drinks went down well (and fast) considering I had spent hours in the India heat by that point.  I picked these beverages out from the selection of welcome offerings on the menu.  But I knew ahead of time what I was getting to eat.  A real Indian delicacy.  Vegetable lasagna!

As one of India’s holy cities on the Ganges, Rishikesh is vegetarian by law.  Vegetarian food is nothing unusual in India.  But while I was researching places to eat in Rishikesh, I noticed that many places served vegetable lasagna as one of their offerings.  So I decided weeks ahead of my trip what I’d be ordering.  And it was delicious.  A very good choice indeed.

The 2 drinks I ordered didn’t last long at all.  And I needed more fluids to wash down my meal.  So I went with another Earl Grey Flavoured Lemon Iced Tea.  But this time I got the slushee version.  That kept me chilled, briefly anyway.  It was time to head back out under the India sun and head across the Ganges, and Across the Universe.
