India 2017, Day 10: Rishikesh, Day 2: Part 1

Gateway to the Himalayas

When I woke up on Day 10 in my room at the fabulous Ganga Kinare, all of the inconvenience of Day 9 was far behind me.  Day 10 turned out to be just what it was supposed to be–a spectacular day along the [Read more…]

India 2017 Food Diary, Day 9

Day 9 felt like a disaster when it began.  I comforted myself at bloomsrooms with a traditional American breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast.

When I got to Rishikesh several hours later, I was ready to dig in to some yummy vegetarian food.  As Rishikesh is a holy Hindu city, it is vegetarian by law.  (Vegetarian, not vegan.)

I was starving when I checked into the fabulous Ganga Kinare.  I chowed down on rice, bread & butter, and strawberry & blueberry yogurt.  That was to tide me along until I had dinner that night.

According to my notes, I started off my Indian birthday with a vegetable turnover.  I didn’t take a picture, and I have no recollection of it.  So you just have to use your imagination.  I bet it was pretty good though.

In the middle of my day of sightseeing in South Delhi, I had lunch at a vegetarian restaurant in an area of Delhi called Defence Colony.  (It was originally built for the homes of military officers and veterans.)  The waiter brought over some condiments that I didn’t make much use of.

A strawberry sparkling soda sounding really refreshing after a morning trekking around the Mehrauli area.  I freaked out when it came because it had ice in it.  Drinking ice made from tap water [Read more…]

India 2017, Day 8: Delhi, Day 3

South Delhi

Happy Indian Birthday to me!  When I planned my trip, I decided that I was going to spend my birthday in India.  Today was the day!  And a somewhat off-the-beaten-path type of day it was.  Who’s ever heard [Read more…]
