On my 1st full day in Valparaíso, I had food that was simple, but simply delicious. I had lunch at a place I came across that offered a fixed menu. I had no trouble finding something I liked for each course. I started off with the vegetable soup.

While waiting for my main course, I took a picture of the beautiful interior of the restaurant. It makes sense that the restaurant is named Cafe Del Pintor, which is Spanish for Painter’s Café.

For the main course, I had hake grilled with lemon sauce and served with mushroom risotto. I didn’t realize till now that I’d had hake 3 days in a row. I must like it!

For dessert, I chose the passionfruit mousse. Mmm, yum!
But I wasn’t done with dessert. Oh no! You see, I stumbled across Cafe Del Pintor when I was on my way to Amor Porteño, a very famous ice cream shop in Valparaíso. By the looks of it, I got stracciatella or cookies and cream.

It was so healthy of me to have 2 desserts for lunch that I later stopped in a fast food joint to get the Megamix, french fries and onion rings together.

For dinner, I returned to the restaurant where I’d had dinner the night before. Usually I like to try a variety of restaurants. But there weren’t a lot of restaurants close to the hotel. And I didn’t want to venture too far because although I had felt totally safe in Valparaíso by day, I knew that my luck could run out at night. But make a point of getting a different dish at the restaurant. On this night, I got crab cake. But it was very different from what you’d expect a crab cake to be in the States. It looks good though, doesn’t it!

Unlike the night before, it was dark when I left the restaurant. I kept very aware of my surroundings on the way back to the hotel. I arrived back at my room safe and sound.
