Spain 2023 Food Diary, Day 2

I started off the day in Segovia with my 1st chocolate croissant of the trip.  No time like the present, right?

I didn’t have lunch because I was rushing around Segovia so much, taking in all the fabulous sights.  So instead, I had an early dinner.  Well, early by Spanish standards anyway.  For starters, the sun was still shining.  I had dinner at El Bernardino, a restaurant that I’ll admit, does cater to tourists.  But it’s right in the middle of the Old Town, so what do you expect?

I had to take a break from croquettes, even though they were tempting, so instead for a starter, I got pork-stuffed peppers.  It was here that I first started to notice that peppers in Spain tasted a lot different from the bell peppers I was used to.  I’m going to be honest.  I didn’t love the flavor.  Nothing against Spanish peppers.  It’s just me.

For the main course, I got Biscayan-style cod.  (Items served in red sauce seemed to be a theme for my meal.)  It was pretty good.  Looks great though, doesn’t it?  Now that I think of it, that meant I had Basque cuisine for dinner two nights in a row.  And that’s without ever getting to Basque Country!  (Not yet anyway.)

Time for dessert!  I got homemade flan with nougat ice cream.  Yum!

Time for 2nd dessert!  I had a long time to wait for my train after dinner.  So I passed by some of the time by enjoying some chocolate mousse at an ice cream place.  Yum yum!!
